This month was full of traveling to theatrical conventions to spread the word about the Academy of Make Up Arts as well as meet with other industry leaders. We met a lot of new friends, learned a lot, and got to teach our fair share. Keep scrolling to see more!
USITT
A few of us traveled up to Baltimore, Maryland for the United States Institute for Theatre Technology Conference. Ben, Michael, Stefanie, and a current student, Constance, were the faces of AMUA for the week! They chatted with other industry leaders and showed off our skills with props made by current and former students. Anyone at the convention was able to watch Constance as she worked on a fully custom, lace wig foundation.
SETC
After just a short break home, Stefanie and Constance made their way to Memphis, Tennessee for the Southeastern Theatre Conference. Constance continued work on her wig foundation and spoke to so many people about her hands-on experience at AMUA. You can see more of her work on her Instagram, so go check out what she’s been creating!
Happy 5 Years to Michael Meyer!
March 22nd marked a happy day here at AMUA! Our School Director, Michael Meyer, celebrated 5 years of working with us! Not only is he our School Director, but he’s one of our beloved professors, teaching Wig Making and Character Design. Michael is also the founder of Skindeep FX and Co-Founder of Human Analogue Applications. His love for teaching spans the globe. He spent over 16 years as the Director of the Wig and Make-up Department at the University of North Carolina. He is a Guest Professor at the Taiwan National University of the Arts and a Guest Professor at the Central Academy Of Drama in Beijing. Needless to say, our students are in good hands and we’re so happy to have Michael on board for many more years to come!
